Schools

The Yorkshire Waterways Museum encourages visits from schools and promotes widening participation from non typical visitors. School visits will encourage children to make repeat family visits and facilitate family learning and an understanding of the culture and heritage of their ancestors.

We are in partnership with Hull Museum Service, Harrogate Museum Service and The North York Moors Railways delivery a project called Renaissance Partnership Initiative. The has facilitated the development of new resources and workshops for schools including a working model of a lock and has also marketed the educational offer to a large number of schools. It promotes school visits and outreach work and continues next year.

The Yorkshire Waterways Museum has formed a partnership with the Hull Museum hub in partnership with the North Yorkshire Moors Railways and Harrogate Museums Services. The partnership aims to promote the use of museums to schools and socio-economic groups unlikely to make museum visits through development and sharing of resources, a cohesive use of information and marketing stratagies and a partnership micro business plan. The My Learning website will enable schools and learning groups to understand and access all resources available in the partnership and encourage inclusive participation.

School Visits Logistics

Large parties are split into smaller groups, with not more than 12 in each group. These groups rotate through a detailed programme of activities. A timetable is provided after consultation that meets the outcomes and needs of individual learning groups. Pre visits are encouraged to maximise opportunities on the day and provide follow up classroom work relevant to topics for the term.
